Development of a Gas Sensor for Eucalyptol Supervision: A Supporting Tool for Extreme Wildfire Management

Recent research on volatile organic compounds (VOC) released by the heated vegetation has shown that, under specific conditions (e.g., extreme heat, humidity, wind, and topography), VOC might foster wildfire ignition sources explain sudden changes in fire behavior, particularly most susceptible flammable forests (eucalypt forests). This work aims to develop an electronic nose (e-nose) based a sensor’s array monitor concentration of eucalyptol, major compound Eucalyptus globulus tree. The detection this target was achieved measuring impedance spectra layer-by-layer developed thin films polyethyleneimine, poly(allylamine hydrochloride), graphene oxide, injecting analyte into custom-made vacuum chamber system. obtained results were analyzed principal component analysis method. e-nose sensor able distinguish different concentrations range from 411 1095 ppm.
